BECU | Credit Union Powering Sustainable Success

Share :

Project Description

BECU, the 4th largest credit union in the U.S., has been measuring and working to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations since 2008. The BECU and Impacti partnership began in 2021 with the creation of the 2020 GHG Inventory report. In 2022, Impacti supported BECU in conducting its first-ever materiality assessment, aiming to pinpoint key environmental priorities.  In 2023, for the third year in a row, both parties collaborated once more on the 2022 GHG Inventory while expanding to engage the C-Suite to take a high-level governance-led approach to sustainability.

What we did

The Impacti team supported and advised the BECU’s Sustainability team with its Materiality Assessment, GHG Inventory, and Impact Reporting by:

  • Surveyed and met with 40+ stakeholders to gather their views on the issues that matter most to themselves and BECU's business performance
  • Identified four Environmental Priorities that are important to both BECU and its stakeholders and contribute to the UN Global Goals
  • Calculated Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions following assumptions and estimations to address any data gaps
  • Engaged with relevant GHG data stakeholders to improve data collection and quality
  • Developed BECU’s Impact report showcasing achievements in 4 focus areas: People & Culture, Member Experience, Community Impact, and Strategy & Governance

Achievements

Impacti has assisted BECU with its sustainability and impact journey. BECU aims to increase its environmental responsibility and social justice through corporate and individual efforts.
