Step 8: Fill data gaps with proxies
What you can do:
When actual data is missing or incomplete, you can use proxies to fill in the gaps and keep your inventory accurate and complete. Impacti offers built-in proxy options for selected emission categories, and we're continuously expanding support to more!
How it works
Click “Add/Manage Data”, scroll down, and choose “Admin area”.
Select “Proxies” from the sections available on the left-side panel. As a Super user, you have the ability to apply an average proxy or a reference year proxy for the following emission categories: On-site energy generation, Refrigerant leakage, Vehicle refrigerants (under Company vehicle), Purchased energy, Business travel - ground, Worker commute, Waste, and Water.
Once you've created a proxy and assigned it a name or identifier, you can choose to apply or unapply it as needed across your reporting entities.
FAQs
-
A proxy is an estimated value used to fill in for missing or incomplete data. It helps ensure your GHG inventory remains complete when actual data isn’t available.
-
Impacti identifies a data gap when a data record is created but the Amount field is left blank.
-
Use a proxy when actual data cannot be obtained within the reporting period. Proxies are helpful for categories like energy use, commuting, or waste when precise figures aren’t available, but you still need to account for emissions.
-
Impacti supports two types of proxies:
Average proxy: Based on average values from other entities or datasets.
Reference year proxy: Uses historical data from a previous year for the same entity.
-
Currently, proxies can be applied to:
On-site energy generation
Refrigerant leakage (only for Mixed equipment, Central cooling/chillers/HVAC, and Other/Unknown)
Vehicle refrigerants (under Company vehicle)
Purchased energy
Business travel – ground
Worker commute
Waste
Water
-
Only Admin users can create and apply proxies across entities.
-
Yes. Proxies are clearly labeled in the data tables under the Data quality column as “Automatic proxy”.
