SDG 5

Gender Equality

WHAT’s THIS ABOUT?

Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls (SDG 5) is crucial for a just and sustainable world. Despite progress, women and girls still face discrimination and violence in every part of the world.

Globally, 1 in 3 women have experienced physical or sexual violence, and women are disproportionately affected by poverty and lack of access to education and healthcare. The World Economic Forum estimates it will take 99.5 years to achieve gender parity at the current rate of progress.

Businesses have a critical role to play in accelerating progress towards SDG 5. Empowering women in the workplace leads to increased productivity, innovation, and economic growth. Companies with greater gender diversity in leadership positions outperform those with less diversity.

Investing in women also strengthens communities and contributes to a more inclusive and prosperous society. Businesses can promote women's leadership, ensure equal pay for equal work, provide safe and inclusive workplaces, and support women-owned businesses. By prioritizing gender equality, businesses can create a more equitable future for all.
